Diane Schaffer, of Emmaus, is seeking the position of school director on the board of East Penn School District, on the ballot of both the Republican and Democratic parties.
Schaffer’s childhood dream was to become a public school teacher. While circumstances put her on a different path, she has always been an advocate for children and for quality education.
In addition to raising two sons with her husband Frank Schaffer, and enjoying six grandchildren, she has been a school bus driver, on the staff of a children’s day care center and has volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and Brownie leader. With her husband, she has provided a home for 10 foster children and 15 exchange students.
Schaffer also served for 32 years on the board of the Bethany Children’s Home at Womelsdorf PA and for many of those years was the board secretary.
Schaffer served for a dozen years on the board of school directors of the Pleasant Valley School District as member, vice president and president. While on the board, she was selected to serve on the Monroe Career and Technical Institute for 10 years as member, secretary and president.
Her primary interests in serving are that the East Penn School District provide quality education, emphasizing academic excellence; that adequate security be provided for students and teachers in all the district schools and that the district expend funds as efficiently as possible so that taxes can be lowered.
