According to board minutes, Washington Township supervisors met April 10 for a special meeting to discuss the gun and group home amendments.

A motion was made amending the 2009 zoning ordinance to incorporate provisions regarding target ranges and regulations.

The regulations for group homes were also amended concerning large and small homes.

All ordinances inconsistent with the amended ordinances were repealed.

In other matters, John Kisthardt resigned from the zoning board and was made an alternate member. Aaron Oswald was appointed to the board.

The May 7 regular board meeting opened with a thank-you letter from Dan Kunkle of the Lehigh Gap Nature Center for a $3,000 donation. The letter said the center was a resource in Washington Township’s backyard.

Kunkle thanked the township for caring for Old Mill Road for the center.

A budgeted donation of $3,500 for Slatington Library was released.

A $1,000 donation was released to the Emerald Playground after receipt of its financial records for 2018.

Bids were opened for seal coating and paving. Asphalt Maintenance Solutions was granted the bid for seal coating at a cost of $50,156. Paving will be done by Lehigh Asphalt at a cost of $223,473, pending review.

During public comment, resident Ed Ziegler said he intends to send a letter to Gov. Tom Wolf due to the lack of stickers on license plates.

He also commented on the high price, $31,000, for snowplows and asked, “Are they gold plated?”

He was glad to see that white lines had been painted in Emerald but said there is more to be done.

Supervisor Josh Friebolin reminded everyone 8 a.m. to noon June 1, will be township cleanup day.

Acceptable items are listed in the township newsletter.

There will be fees for some items such as electronics. Old batteries will be accepted and turned in to offset the cost of batteries for township equipment.
