Spring athletes are seeing success during their seasons. Hurdler Dillan Foley won the 100-meter hurdle vs. Emmaus April 15. Viking Lacrosse also defeated Emmaus 11-5 during a Pink-Out April 15 and 13-6 April 23. The team currently has only one loss. At a track meet against Freedom High School April 25, student Natasha Kuklis took first in the girls 400-meter race and student Isabel DeVos won the girls 800-meter race.
Student Julia Santos is the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Scholar Athlete for cheerleading. Santos received her award based on her student athlete abilities and her leadership within the school community and her sport. She will be honored at a luncheon May 28 at the Stroudsmoor Country Inn.
The Viking tennis team held their senior night April 15 at Allentown Central Catholic High School. Seniors honored included Nick Amsler, Ian Arnold, Andy Feng, Stephen Sweetana and Johnson Zhou.
The spring sports awards and Mass will be held 9:45 a.m. May 7 in Rockne Hall. Spring scholar athletes and MVPs will be recognized from the baseball, lacrosse, softball, track and field and tennis teams.
A retreat to Emmitsburg, Md, took place April 22. Students traveled to the Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and Mount St. Mary’s University for tours, sightseeing and Mass.
The National Honor Society Induction ceremony took place April 24 in Masson auditorium. Fifty-seven members of the Class of 2020 NHS were inducted and current members of the Class of 2019 NHS were recognized. The ceremony featured speeches from guest speaker Joseph Holaska, Class of 2004 and the NHS officers on the four pillars of the organization: Alex Strohl, president, spoke on leadership, Ryan Schanta, vice president, talked about scholarship, Michael Fleck, treasurer, spoke about service and Julia Santos, secretary, discussed character.
Students Jessica Davis and Thomas Perun were recently announced as the ACCHS recipients of the Allentown Diocese Bishop’s Scholar Award. Davis will attend the University of Notre Dame to study biochemistry and Perun will attend the Pennsylvania State University to study electrical engineering.
The ACCHS cheer team open gym and tryout dates have been announced for the 2019-2020 season. Open gyms will be held 3 to 4:30 p.m. May 6, 9, 13 and 15. Tryouts will be held 3-5 p.m. May 20-21. Formal tryouts will be held 5-7:30 p.m. May 22. All events will be held in Rockne Hall and all accepted eighth grade and current students are welcome.
The ACCHS dance team will hold tryouts for the 2019-2020 school year 9 a.m. to noon May 18 and 6-8:30 p.m. May 19. Tryouts are open to all accepted eighth grade and current students. Contact Adrienne Motley at amotley@acchs.info for more information.
The Central City Project is organizing a food pantry for the Jordan Heights neighborhood beginning in the fall of 2019. The group is looking for shelving for the pantry; interested donors can contact Patrick Markham at pmarkham@acchs.info.
Viking Graduate lawn signs are now available for senior families to order. There is a cost for the signs. The signs are printed on both sides and include metal stakes. Online order forms can be found on the school’s Facebook page and are due by May 10. Once the order form is submitted, send payment into school with your senior in an envelope, which should include the senior’s name and homeroom and be sent to the attention of Student Council / Mr. Bayer.
