MACUNGIE COLUMN

The Macungie Farmers Market will welcome shoppers to its 13th season grand opening 4-7 p.m. May 16.

The market features local family farmers providing homegrown food: fruits, vegetables, meat products, eggs, baked goods, plants and more. The farmers market will be open every Thursday 4-7 p.m. through October except Aug. 22. Parking is available at the park parking lot and along North Walnut Street.

With warmer temperatures come the many outside events held spring through fall at Macungie Memorial Park. Volunteers are needed to help with these events. If you are able to donate some time, please call 610-966-4289 or email macungiepark@gmail.com for information.

There will be a GM on Display Car Show 9 a.m to noon May 5 for General Motors cars and trucks at Macungie Memorial Park, 50 Poplar St. There will be food and music. For more information, call 610-966-4289.

The Lower Lehigh Lions will sponsor a flea market and garage sale 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 11 at Macungie Memorial Park. There will be no rain date this year. The Parkland Art League will hold its next meeting 7 p.m. May 14 at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 6667 Lower Macungie Road, Trexlertown. The guest artist for the evening will be Adriano Farinella. The Mid Atlantic Cavy Breeders Association will hold a show May 17 and 18 at Macungie Memorial Park.

Macungie Rod and Gun Club will hold its annual children’s fishing contest 8 a.m. to noon May 18 at Swabia Creek behind Allen Organ. Each registered child receives a hot dog and soda. Participants are encouraged to arrive early to register.

Primary elections will be held May 21. Macungie residents vote at the Macungie Memorial Park main building.

The Macungie VFW Post No. 9264 will begin Memorial Day events with graveside memorial services at various cemetery locations 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 26.

The Macungie VFW will host Memorial Day activities May 27 beginning with a flag raising and wreath placing ceremony 8:30 a.m. at Macungie Memorial Park. The annual parade will begin 10 a.m. The parade route will be on Main Street from Buttonwood to Poplar streets. There will be Memorial Day celebrations at Macungie Memorial Park following the parade. After the service concludes, everyone is invited back to the Macungie Veteran’s Association for refreshments. For information, call the VFW at 610-965-0372.

Macungie Pool will be open noon to 8 p.m. May 25 to Aug. 25 weekdays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekends. On weekdays there is Toddler Time 11 a.m. to noon. Swim lessons are available. For more information, call 610-966-5757.

The Spring Into Summer Food Truck and Vendor Festival will be held noon to 5 p.m. June 1 at Macungie Memorial Park. The event will feature crafters, vendors, food trucks, bounce houses, kids’ crafts and activities and more.

A Lehigh Valley Tennis Academy program will be offered every Monday and Thursday May 2-30 at Macungie Memorial Park at the outdoor tennis courts. Class will not meet May 27. The Macungie Rod and Gun Club board meets 7 p.m. May 16 at the club.

Macungie Borough Council meets 7:30 p.m. May 6 and 20 and June 3 at borough hall, 21 Locust St.

The Macungie Park Board of Directors meeting will be held downstairs 7 p.m. May 28. The public is welcome.
