Moravian College graduation events
Baccalaureate will be held at 5 p.m. on May 10, in Central Moravian Church, 73 W. Church St. Commencement 2019 will begin at 10 a.m. on May 11 on the John Makuvek Field behind the Haupert Union Building, between W. Locust, W. Laurel and Monacacy streets and Mauch Chunk Road. Please do not wear spiked or stiletto high heels; a thicker or wedge heel will work best.
In the event of severe weather, graduation exercises will be split into two (2) ceremonies and both will be held in Johnston Hall: 10 a.m. - The School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (SAHSS) and the Moravian Theological Seminary; 2 p.m. - The School of Natural and Health Sciences (SNHS).
Northampton Community College
Northampton Community College present a day of sustainability-themed events from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 24 in room 220, College Center, 3835 Green Pond Road.
There will be speakers, workshops and more. At 6 p.m., there will be a screening of “Paris to Pittsburg” with a Q&A to follow. The event is sponsored by the Sustainability Committee, Geography and the NCC Climate Action Network club. Registration is recommended; email aforrester@northampton.edu
Fine Art Exhibit
Northampton Community College will hold an artist talk at 2:30 p.m. in Room 190, and a reception at 5 p.m. in the Gallery of Communications Hall, both on April 30, in the College Center, Main Campus.
The annual Fine Art Exhibit features the students’ capstone projects of and runs from April 18 through May 2 at the gallery.
Fab Lab woodworking
Spend a day in the Fab Lab with a professional woodworker.
Northampton Community College “Woodworking for Non-Woodworkers” class will be held from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. May 4 at the Fab Lab, Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Third St.
Participants will be introduced to the basic tools, machinery, and techniques of the trade. They will learn how the tools work, what they need to get started, and where to buy the tools.

Ehtics Bowl winners
Northampton Community College’s Ethics Bowl Team took home the top title at the tenth Fleming Institute for Business Ethics 2019 Ethics Bowl Competition at DeSales University on March 27. The N.C.C. students team of Alexa Koorie, Devon Pfeifer and Noah Troxell beat out teams from DeSales University, Penn State Lehigh Valley, Penn State Berks, and Wilkes University to earn first place.
PC-CC Lobby Day
Daniel Stevens, from Bethlehem, and twelve other Northampton Community College students along with NCC staff advocated for an increased funding level in the 2019-20 fiscal year budget on April 9 in Harrisburg on Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges’ Annual Lobby Day.
The budget proposed by Gov. Tom Wolf does not provide an operating or capital funding increase for the colleges, despite being the largest provider of public postsecondary education in the Commonwealth and a sector that plays a significant role in the Commonwealth’s education and workforce development systems.

Cedar Crest College
Earth Day event is April 24
Cedar Crest College will hold the annual Community Earth Day Celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. on April 24 along the college quad at the college.
There will be environmental activities, games, arts, crafts, seed planting and more, many of which are for elementary-aged children. College students will help with the activities.
Faculty recognized
Cedar Crest College recently recognized a number of faculty members during a promotion and tenure ceremony on April 4.
Those recognized were Eileen Fruchtl, MSN, RN, CNE, promoted to Senior Instructor of Nursing; Joshua Harrington, PhD, promoted to Associate Professor of Mathematics and awarded tenure; Deborah Hartman, MS, BCSE, promoted to Senior Instructor of Education; Scott Hoke, PhD , promoted to Associate Professor of Criminal Justice; Joan Kern, PhD, promoted to Associate Professor of Education; Jill Purdy, EdD, promoted to Professor of Education; and Lindsey Welch, PhD, promoted to Associate Professor of Chemistry and awarded tenure.
Student art exhibit
Cedar Crest College presents ‘The Art of Art Therapists’ at the Gallery of Capital Blue Cross at the Shoppes at the Promenade in Center Valley. This student exhibit presents imagery from students in the undergraduate and graduate art therapy program, which includes Charlene Natterman of Bethlehem, as well as faculty members. The exhibit is on display through May 6.
May graduation events
Cedar Crest College will hold a Baccalaureate service with music, opening and closing prayers and multi-faith readings at 3 p.m. May 10 in Samuels Theatre. The event is open to all students, their families and friends, and Cedar Crest College faculty and staff. Tickets are not required.
The 149th Commencement ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. May 11 at the PPL Center, 701 Hamilton St., Allentown. Shabana Basij-Rasikh, the co-founder and president of the School of Leadership, Afghanistan (SOLA), will be the speaker and will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. Tickets are required. The ceremony will be live streamed at www.cedarcrest.edu.
