LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Volleyball still unbeaten

The Whitehall boys volleyball team has continued its perfect march toward the postseason, picking up two more league wins as they head down the back stretch.

They resumed action Tuesday against Nazareth, toppling the Blue Eagles in three, 25-14, 27-25, 25-16. It was their first action in nearly a week, having taken the court six days ago against Liberty.

But the team didn’t lose its edge in maintaining their winning streak.

Their frontcourt trio of Joseph Herman, Dylan McGinley and Alex Khouri continued to bedevil opponents, leading the charge in another EPC victory. Herman had 10 kills, six digs, and three aces. Middle hitter Khouri hammered eight kills, while McGinley had five.

From the service line, Nick Rex had two aces against Nazareth, while Rick Melosky set up his teammates with 22 assists.

After the win against the Blue Eagles, the Zephyrs have seven matches remaining. They’re currently 11-0, a game ahead of Emmaus in the conference standings.

Prior to that victory, they defeated Liberty 3-0, winning 25-18, 25-17, 25-21.

Herman finished the game with 14 kills, nine digs and three blocks. Khouri netted 10 kills and seven digs, while McGinley boomed seven kills. Melosky had six kills and 30 assists, while libero Aziz Atiyeh registered 15 digs.

The Zephs have only dropped one set all year to an EPC foe, and maintaining that focus will be crucial as they look to get through these last seven games.

Whitehall has met every challenge this year. Head coach George Cowitch said that the key to their success this year has been their work ethic, coupled with their desire to be the best every time they step onto the floor.

“Our guys have been so prepared and they have worked their tails off at practice,” said Cowitch. “This group of players have been working hard like they’re still the underdog. There is a hunger among these guys to win when it counts.”

The Zephyrs play at home Thursday against Pocono Mountain West.
