The annual Memorial Day parade will start promptly 9 a.m. May 27 moving out from the Emmaus High School parking lot to Chestnut Street and ending at the Memorial Triangle on Fourth Street. The memorial service will be held at this location. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held in the EHS auditorium 10 a.m. All veterans are urged to participate with their posts.
The Emmaus Veterans Committee will hold cemetery services (honor guard and firing squad) at Western Salisbury Union Church 9 a.m. May 19.
The Emmaus Veterans Committee will honor departed comrades buried in each of the six Emmaus cemeteries May 26. The ceremony includes a short prayer service, rifle salute and taps. The honor guard will begin 8 a.m. at Calvary cemetery, then proceed in the following order: Old Moravian, Moravian at Ridge Street, Lutheran Reformed, Northwood and end at Evangelical, Second and Ridge streets.
The Emmaus Garden Club invites one and all to attend its Festivi-TEA 2 to 4 p.m. May 4 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St. Guest speaker Marijo Taylor will share her memories of tea at Buckingham Palace. In addition to delicious tasties, there will be door prizes and a photo op with the queen. There is a cost. The Emmaus Garden Club meets noon May 7 at Faith Presbyterian Church. The program will be “Designing a Flower Garden” presented by Lori Metz of Carriage House Landscape. Metz will teach about bloom site selection, starting seeds, bloom times and containers. Guests are always welcome. For information, call 610-965-6109.
Emmaus Farmers Market will open for the regular season May 5. Come celebrate opening day 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Emmaus Triangle. The market will welcome back many of its regular vendors plus a few newbies. There will be live music, henna tattoo or kids’ tattoo, entertainment by master juggler Jack Bewildered and more. Emmaus Borough Council will meet 7 p.m. May 6 and 20 in council chambers at borough hall, 19 S. Fourth St. The borough offices will be closed May 27 for the Memorial Day holiday. For information, visit borough.emmaus.pa.us.
The hours changed April 29 for the compost site on Kline’s Lane. From April 29 to Sept. 21 the hours are: 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
The Emmaus Community Park pool will be open for the Memorial Day weekend, noon to 8 p.m. May 25, 26 and 27.
Lincoln Elementary School, 233 Seem St., will hold its annual spring festival 4 to 7 p.m. May 10 on the school property.
The Emmaus Historical Society’s next monthly program and membership meeting will be held 7 p.m. May 15 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. Voting for director positions will take place prior to the program. All members in good standing and who are in attendance can vote. The program will be the 150th/250th 2009 Celebration presented by Mike Waddell and Teri Sorg McManamon. All are welcome.
The Emmaus Historical Society museum, 218 Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday and by appointment. Stop by to see the new displays, especially the 1909 Golden Jubilee, 1919 World War I Homecoming and 1959 Centennial Celebration mementos which are on display now. The 2009 Anniversary Celebration, 1934 Diamond Jubilee, 1984 Homecoming Celebration and a tribute to the Moravian Church will be featured in the coming weeks.
The society has available Dan Schantz monthly “Maddness” fundraising cards through May 15. These cards never expire and are great gifts. Stop by the museum or call 610-966-6591 to reserve a card.
The society is participating in the Emmaus June 1 Community Yard Sale. Donations are accepted 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. any Saturday during museum hours or call 610-966-6591 to make other arrangements. The last day to donate is May 18.

Come out and help celebrate the recipients honored during the 13th annual Veterans Bricks Installation ceremony 1 p.m. May 26 at the Emmaus Remembrance Garden. The garden is located on the east side of Emmaus, 164 E. Main St. (enter at the Cintas building driveway and follow the garden signs). Please bring your own chairs. The Emmaus Senior Citizens group meets 1 p.m. every Friday at St. Matthew’s E.C. Church, Fifth and Ridge streets. All local senior citizens are welcome. Programs will be May 3: Rachael, Ridge Manor Center’s manager, will visit to describe some of the programs at Ridge Manor; May 10: to be announced; May 17, Michael Evans, musician; May 23: film and May 31 is game day.

A representative from the office of Sen. Lisa Boscola, D-18th, is present to answer questions, help fill out forms and provide other services at the library 10:05 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Monday. There will be no office hours May 27 Memorial Day. The library is closed May 24 through 27 for the holiday.
