Former Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim will be remembered long after he has left office because county commissioners voted on a resolution April 10 to name the conference room in the Coroner’s Office and Forensic Center in his honor.

According to the resolution approved by the commissioners, Grim served in the coroner’s office for 26 years, 22 of which he was county coroner.

Under his leadership, the coroner’s office was nationally accredited by the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners in 2005.

“Coroner Grim embodied the finest traits of a public servant: hard work, dedication, integrity, honesty and transparency,” according to the resolution naming the conference room after Grim.

“He has left is mark on forensic science in Lehigh County,” Commissioner Amy Zanelli said.

Commissioners also recognized Valerie Hildebeitel’s last day on the job as a deputy clerk for commissioners, a position she has held for the past 13 years. She was presented flowers by commissioners President Marty Nothstein.

The board also voted to amend the 2019 Lehigh County budget to provide for a new position of supervisory accountant at Cedarbrook Senior Care and Rehabilitation.

Cedarbrook Senior Care and Rehabilitation requested the county enter into an agreement with Phoebe Services Inc. to provide independent prescription services for the county owned facility.

In other business, the board reappointed Henry T. Lyons Jr. to the Lehigh County Authority, the water and sewer administrators for much of the county.

They also appointed Michael Stershic to the Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority.

“He is in a position to be an advocate for the Lehigh County,” Commissioner Brad Osborne said. “He is a good choice.”

Michelle Lee, a Lehigh County Children and Youth caseworker, pleaded with the commissioners to “consider adding more caseworkers into the budget.”

County Executive Phillips Armstrong reported the first edition of the new 16-page Lehigh County newsletter will be mailed to residents soon.
