State Rep. Gary Day, R-187th is reminding residents age 65 and older his office can help with applications for a free SEPTA Key Senior ID card. His district office is located in Star Plaza, 6299 Route 309, Suite 302, New Tripoli.

“I don’t want people to have to drive to SEPTA’s office in Philadelphia, so I encourage residents to stop by and take advantage of this convenient service,” Day said. “My staff will help seniors complete the application and then the card will be mailed to their residence.”

Seniors may stop by Day’s district office 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to get assistance.

No appointment is necessary, and the service is free.

Residents are asked to bring their driver’s license or other valid form of identification, such as Pennsylvania driver’s license or nondriver ID, birth certificate or baptismal certificate, yellow PACE Card (Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly), statement of age verification from the U.S. Social Security Administration, armed forces discharge/separation papers, or resident alien card or passport/naturalization papers.

The Key Card enables seniors to ride free on all transit routes (bus, trolley, trackless trolley, Broad Street/Broad Ridge Spur Line, Market Frankford Line/Norristown High Speed Line).

Last year, SEPTA eliminated the $1 Regional Rail fare for travel within Pennsylvania.

While Pennsylvania seniors who possess a valid (unexpired) driver’s license or state-issued ID are automatically eligible to participate in the program, people who do not want to use either form of identification may register and have their picture taken for the SEPTA Key Senior ID card.

The SEPTA Key cards will be mailed at a later date.
