Multiple Allentown Central Catholic High School students were honored at the Via All-Star Basketball Classic banquet at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center March 29.

ACCHS student Jess Davis was named to the Via Girls Team of the Year. Davis and Lizzy Szmigiel were named to the West Girls All-Stars Team. ACCHS student Chad Kratzer was named to the West Boys All-Stars Team. Becky Guman, Class of 2009, was inducted into the Lehigh Valley Basketball Hall of Fame during the event. She was the Lehigh Valley Conference MVP twice during her high school career and scored 1,141 career points. Guman also won Lehigh Valley Conference MVP honors in volleyball and led Central to two state championships.

The Viking Glory Dodgeball Tournament was held March 30 at Elite Sports Academy in Emmaus. The night was organized by the Class of 2020; a portion of the proceeds benefitted Team Krause, an organization that raises pancreatic cancer awareness. Team Naviance took home the championship after battling their way through the bracket.

ACCHS lacrosse player Kate Musselman achieved her 100th goal during a 16-6 Viking victory over Crestwood April 1.

The Stations of the Cross Retreat was held April 1. Students traveled to various churches throughout the Lehigh Valley to pray the Stations of the Cross, which are traditionally recited during the season of Lent.

ACCHS’ spring musical “The Drowsy Chaperone” ran April 4-6. The show was performed for many of Central’s partner schools April 4, including Good Shepherd, Mercy Special Learning Center, Sacred Heart, St. Ann, St. Elizabeth’s, St. John Vianney and St. Joseph the Worker. The show is eligible for the 2019 Freddy Awards, which celebrate excellence in high school musical theater in Lehigh, Northampton, and Warren counties. The awards will be held at the State Theatre in Easton May 23.

The Best Friends Forever Club sponsored a spirit dress down day April 8 to benefit Special Olympics. The club partners with Mercy Special Learning Center in Allentown and engages in many activities and special events with the students.

The junior class retreat was held April 9 at DeSales University. Participating students took part in Mass, reflections, discussions, dinner and a tour of the campus with the university’s students.

Coffeehouse, a talent show for Central students, was hosted by National Honor Society April 11 in Masson Auditorium. Students performed various acts, including singing, instruments, skits and more.

The Vikette soccer team celebrated the Easter season by having an Easter egg hunt fundraiser. The team hid filled Easter eggs on participants’ lawns the night of April 12 for the families to find the next morning. The unique fundraiser was a huge success for the team.

Viking Fest was held April 13 at the Americus Hotel in Allentown. The event, which honored the Straccia, Matt and Lieberman families, was a successful fundraiser for ACCHS and featured dinner, an auction and more.

The Pro-Life Club hosted a children’s Easter egg hunt April 14 in Masson Auditorium. Children up to fourth grade participated in the hunt; all attendees enjoyed the food and photos with the Easter Bunny. The event raised funds for the club and for the Cay Galgon Life House of Bethlehem.

A pilgrimage to Emmitsburg, Md, will be held April 22. Students will spend the day at the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

A designer purse bingo will be hosted April 28 in Masson Auditorium to benefit the annual spring musical. Advance tickets are discounted. Tickets also will be available at the door. Recipients of the 2023 Bishop’s Scholar Award were recently announced and 23 eighth graders from Allentown Diocese Catholic Schools were awarded $1,000 scholarships to attend Central Catholic this fall.

Alex Strohl was a 2019 Lehigh Valley Educators Credit Union Scholarship winner. Strohl will attend the University of Pittsburgh in the fall, where he will major in economics and minor in political science. He is also an Eagle Scout, president of National Honor Society and founder and president of the economics team.
