STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q. Who are the members of your family: parents, siblings and pets?
A. The members of my family are my brother, Daniel, my mother, Danashari and my father, Ronald.
Q. What do you most enjoy about being a senior?
A. I think I most enjoy the thrill of knowing that I’m in the home stretch. The past three years are culminating in one final send off and one final chance to accomplish everything that I wanted to before college.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. Probably either government or economics. I really liked calculus, but I definitely feel more of a connection to social sciences.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I scored well enough on my Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test to be a National Merit Commended Scholar. This year I placed first in a regional writing competition with the school newspaper and I’m excited to attend the state competition later this month.
Q. What are your favorite extracurricular activities?
A. I think my favorite extracurricular at the moment is mock trial because this is the first year that the team has made it to the district championships. I’ve been a part of the club since it started in my freshman year and it’s just wonderful to see how far we’ve come as an organization.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. I plan to go to college and hopefully go on to law school after that to become an attorney.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. This year I just barely missed the qualification for District Band and it was a major blow to my confidence as a musician since I made it the year before. It took me a while to get over that, but being able to channel my disappointment into motivation was definitely one of the most emotionally difficult things I’ve done in recent memory.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I’d like to be remembered as someone who’s always open to learn about new points of view. Even if I disagree with someone, I generally try to see where they’re coming from because I feel like there’s always something to be learned from communicating with those you disagree with.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. Many of my friends are some of the most kindhearted people I’ve ever met, so I’d say that I admire them because of how well they treat others.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. Take care of yourself. It’s really easy to become wrapped up in so many things that your mental health starts to slip, but it’s important to find a few activities that you truly love and enjoy rather than spreading yourself too thin and being miserable because of it.
