STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q: What grade are you in?
A: I am a senior at Salisbury High School.
Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?
A: My favorite subject would have to be honors anatomy because of how interactive the class is. Mrs. Wilson did an awesome job with creating so many labs and dissections for my class.
Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A: I am in National Honor Society, a MiniMax Football Club award winner, an Iron Falcon football award winner, I was a player of the week during the football season in the Colonial League, I was the captain of my football team for my senior season, I am a black belt in karate from Leading Edge Martial Arts, I am a Scholar Athlete for football in the Colonial League and I was the Heart of a Champion award winner in my junior year season. I have made honor roll or high honor roll throughout my high school career every marking period. I won the Edward J. Watto Community Service Award and a $500 scholarship.
Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A: I am a member of the varsity football team for four years and a captain my senior year and a four-year letterman. I am also a member of the Salisbury track and field team. I am a member of Future Business Leaders of America, Key Club and National Honor Society. I also volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem as a patient transporter.
Q: What is your next goal after high school?
A: After high school I will be continuing my academic and football career at Susquehanna University. I will be majoring in pre-med and playing outside linebacker on defense.
Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A: My biggest challenge so far in life has been balancing school work and athletics. I have a very busy schedule and had to figure out a plan every year of my high school career to get my school work done and participate in mainly football.
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: I want to be remembered as a person with a kind heart. I try to be a friend to everyone around me and always do the right thing. I try to be a leader in the classroom and on the football field.
Q: Who is in your family?
A: My mom Elizabeth Kamp attended Penn State University. My dad Joel Kamp attended Penn State University. My older sister Jordan Kamp plays soccer at St. John’s University and my younger sister Hannah Kamp attends Salisbury Middle School.
Q: Do you have someone you look up to?
A: I look up to both of my grandfathers. I have both of their dog tags tattooed on my arm as a way to commemorate their service in the military as well as how important they are in my life. My papa Joe is one of the most loyal people you will ever meet with a huge heart and my Grandpa Harvey, who passed away back in 2012 was an extremely hard worker and had a huge heart as well. Both of these men made a huge impact on my life and have shaped me to be the young man I am today.
Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?
A: Advice that I can give to my peers is that life is short and opportunities come and go. Throughout my high school career, I made many mistakes but I also made some amazing memories. Always live life to the fullest and strive to be the best person you can be. Salisbury is a place where you can do that.
