The Emmaus Woman’s Club recently announced its annual Girl of the Month awards.

Awardees are selected from outstanding Emmaus High School seniors and recognitions are given for the eight months from September through April.

The 2018-2019 academic year honorees include:

Danielle Kleinberg, of Emmaus, selected by the music department for September.

Kleinberg is president of AccaBella, the girls a cappella group at EHS and is vice president of Chorale and Select Choir at the school. Kleinberg is a senior drum major of the EHS marching band. She plays flute in the symphonic band and is leader of the EHS Flute Ensemble. She was a member of the 2017 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District and Regional Chorus Festivals and is a member of the PMEA District Chorus and District Band Festivals in 2019.

She plans to pursue a degree in biochemistry and minor music.

Tabitha Nowak, of Emmaus, selected by the journalism department for October.

Nowak is involved with The Stinger, the high school newspaper. She began as an assistant news editor and is currently the managing news editor. She earned top honors at the Pennsylvania School Press Association 2018 Write-off Competition in Yearbook Copy Writing and an honorable mention at the National Scholastic Press Association/Journalism Education Association Write-off Competition in Newswriting in the fall of 2018. In 2017 she earned top honors in the Keystone Press Awards in the public service category.

She plans to attend either American University or George Washington University and pursue a degree in public communications, most likely journalism.

Edna Creelman, of Emmaus, selected by the art department for November.

Creelman’s achievements include receiving the award for best ceramic piece in the EHS art show in 2017 and 2018. She also received national recognition as a silver award winner in ceramics. She holds two Gold Key Awards from the East Central Pennsylvania Scholastic Art Competition for her ceramics. She is the vice president of National Honor Society at EHS. She is the captain of the girls track and field team and president of the winter track club.

She hopes to attend Haverford College and run for the track and field team. Her academic interests are in the area of psychology and statistics.

Riley Baughman, of Macungie, selected by the family and consumer science department for December.

Baughman’s passion is field hockey from playing to coaching. She has been part of the EHS field hockey team that earned the District XI Championships each year from 2015 to 2018 and the state championships in 2015 and 2016. She also plays for the Firestyx Field Hockey Club and has coached for Firestyx and the Lower Macungie Youth Association.

She plans to study psychology at West Chester State University where she will also play field hockey.

Kristen Zellner, of Macungie, selected by the business/computer applications department for January.

Zellner is a Lower Macungie Youth Association field hockey coach and has been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association High School National Academic Team. She is a member of the PA Math League, National German Honors Society, National Honor Society and the Interact Club. She also is a member of the track and field team at EHS.

She plans to study business management at Shippensburg University while playing field hockey. She hopes to one day own her own business and be able to travel the world.

Lauren Leader, of Macungie, selected by the drama department for February.

Leader has been engaged in the drama department as a director for all four years. She is the treasurer and participates in the fall play and spring musical productions. She also is involved with EHS choral groups and is currently an officer for the Chorale and vice president of AccaBella. She also is a member of the Select Choir and is a producer for ETV, the school television station. She received top honors from the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science in her freshman year.

She plans to attend the University of Delaware and major in physical therapy to become a pediatric physical therapist.

Lily Trexler, of Emmaus, selected by the science department for March.

In her sophomore year, Trexler was recognized as the most improved in science. Her interest in science is reflected in her inclusion in the Emerging Health Professionals program designed for high school seniors interested in the health care field. She is also involved with Health Occupations Students of America, a national organization promoting leadership development, motivation and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult and college students pursuing careers in health professions. She is a member of the varsity softball team.

Her college plans include preparation to become a physician assistant.

Sarah Will, of Lower Macungie Township, selected by the mathematics department for April.

She is a member of the EHS varsity field hockey team and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association named her to the National Academic Squad in 2017 and to the 2018 All-Academic Field Hockey Team. She also plays for the Firestyx Field Hockey Club. In 2018, Will received the EHS Academic Excellence Award and in 2016 received the EHS Science Award. She was the representative to the women in science and engineering program at Lafayette College.

Will plans to attend college and pursue a career in engineering.
