At the Alburtis Borough Council meeting March 27, Borough Manager Sharon Trexler reported the borough was awarded a $494,000 grant for sidewalks and curbs on Franklin Street. This entire project will go out to bid.

A proposal totaling $847 per treatment for June 14 through July 13 was received from Gary’s Trees & Shrubbery Service, Inc. in Emmaus for pest management treatments of 63 honey locust trees on Church Street and 53 on Maple Street. Council passed a motion accepting the proposal.

Trexler reported the teeter totter has arrived. Also, the borough received a deposit of $490.58 from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue for the small games of chance tax from Alburtis Tavern.

Councilperson Sherryann Oels reported the cage at the upper ball field is like a mud pit and she would like to have it raised. Council told her it is already being worked on.

Oels asked if somebody could dig up the area behind the community center as the toilets get clogged and it should be fixed. Council agreed Maintenance Supervisor Donnie Derr will dig it up to see if the problem is with the pipes. If it is, a plumber will do the work.

Trexler reported she, Oels and President Ron DeIaco attended the awards ceremony at Brandywine Fire Station in Macungie for Randy Trexler and Donald Smith March 25. Mayor Kathleen Palmer presented proclamations for their years of service. Councilperson Kathleen Raines also attended. DeIaco mentioned firefighters were true volunteers as they spend countless hours on their training and certifications. DeIaco said firefighters stop whatever they are doing when called no matter what time of day or night, rain, snow or shine. He thanked them for their service.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:40 p.m. and immediately went into an executive session to discuss maintenance. No action was to be taken.
