Ethics team wins competition

Northampton Community College’s Ethics Bowl Team earned first place at the 10th Fleming Institute for Business Ethics 2019 Ethics Bowl on March 27 at DeSales University. They competed against teams from DeSales University, Penn State Lehigh Valley, Penn State Berks, and Wilkes University.

The NCC students, Alexa Koorie, Devon Pfeifer and Noah Troxell, were advised by business faculty members Jeanine Metzler, Wendi Achey and Meredith Koncz. The team was provided a business ethics case to develop and find a solution for prior to the competition, which they then presented to a panel of judges.

Japanese cultural events offered

Northampton Community College will hold a series of authentic Japanese dance, music, traditional dress and art-related cultural events in April. The events are free and open to the public.

There will be a Tokyo Olympic Ondo Dance for the 2020 Olympics learning session from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 16, in the Laub Lounge/Quad, College Center.

A Kimono demonstration and Japanese dance workshop in traditional Nihon Buyõ dance will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by an evening dance performance featuring Hana Takehiro, based on legends about dragons and fishermen, at 6:30 p.m., both on April 17 in the Lipkin Theatre, Kopecek Hall, Bethlehem Campus.

Native American to speak April 11

Delwin Fiddler Jr., a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and a descendant of Chiefs Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, will tell American history from a Native American perspective, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. April 11 in the David A. Reed Community Room, #220, College Center, 3835 Green Pond Road.

He will discuss his 2016 experience as a Water Protector and dedication to environmental conservation and will demonstrate a Native American dance.

Humanities Program April 16 speaker

Dr. Temple Grandin, professor of animal science at Colorado State University, will speak on “Animals and Autism” at 7:30 p.m. April 16 at Arthur L. Spartan Center, Northampton Community College, 3835 Green Pond Road.

She is an expert in the field of humane livestock handling and has designed livestock facilities located in the United States, Canada, Europe, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries.

She earned a bachelor’s degree at Franklin Pierce College, a master of animal science degree at Arizona State University and a doctor of philosophy degree in animal science from the University of Illinois. She has authored more than 400 articles in both scientific journals and livestock periodicals on animal handling, welfare and facility design. Administrative Professionals Day April 24

Administrative Professionals Day will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on April 24 in the Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Third St.

The event will recognize the important contributions of all administrative staff and focus on understanding the basic principles of design thinking. Raja Bhattacharya, the director of NCC’s new Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, will discuss how human emotions and needs are central to design thinking and how these principles can help in professional and personal life.

PTK M.S. Regional awards Tau Gamma

Northampton Community College - Bethlehem’s PTK Tau Gamma Chapter won several awards at the PTK Middle States Regional Awards Ceremony March 15 and 16 in Harrisburg.

The individual awards for the NCC Chapter include Distinguished Chapter Advisor-Jennifer Del Quadro; Distinguished Member Award, Jose Ruiz; Distinguished Officer - Michele Tatosian; Hall of Honors - Chelsea Hill.

The chapter awards are for first place Chapter Cheer; Most Outstanding Completion Week in Pennsylvania; Five Star Chapter Plan Award; Middle States Gold Chapter; Distinguished College Project Award; Distinguished Honors In Action Project; and Distinguished Chapter Award - fourth in the region out of 85 chapters.

Pharmacy Technician course

There will be a Northampton Community College retail pharmacy technician 30-hour comprehensive course from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 23 to May 23, in the Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Third St.

The training prepares graduates for their certification exam. There is a fee. For information, call 610-332-6585.

Bartender workshop

There will be a bartender workshop from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays April 16 - May 14. The hands-on course combines field trips, guest speakers and job opportunity postings in the college’s newly renovated beverage training facility at the Fowler Family Southside Center, Room 507, 511 E. Third St.
