A rollicking musical comedy in the classic Broadway style, “Meet Me in St. Louis” features song, dance, young love and humor at a fast pace. Directed by Debbie Acampora and featuring an orchestra under music director Joseph Fink, the show tells the story of a well-to-do midwestern family on the eve of the 1904 World’s Fair: Alonzo Smith (played by Jacob Moser), his wife, Anna (Rebecca Homer), their son, Lon (Bobby Henry) and daughters Esther (Zara Smith), Rose (Morgan Altemose), Agnes (Samantha Hoffman) and “Tootie” (Emma Smith). The kids are the center of attention: Will Esther’s love for her next-door neighbor, John Truitt (Connor Murphy), be reciprocated? Is the rich Yale student, Warren Sheffield (Ryan Fonte), really interested in Rose? Will the family be forced to relocate to New York City when Mr. Smith gets a plum job there? Everything is worked out with famous songs (“Meet Me in St. Louis,” the Trolley Song [“Clang, clang, clang goes the trolley”], and “Skip to My Lou,” among others), lots of dancing and charming characters. It may be a fantasy world, but it’s an easy one to enjoy.

“Meet Me in St. Louis” will be performed at 7 p.m. April 12 and 13 in Bethlehem Catholic HS’s auditorium, 2133 Madison Ave., Bethlehem.
