It’s 1959 and death stalks those onstage in “Curtains,” a play-within-a-play musical comedy, 7:30 p.m. April 10, 11, 12 and 13 and 3 p.m. April 14, auditorium, Parkland High School, 2700 N. Cedar Crest Boulevard, Allentown.

Lieutenant Frank Cioffi, a Boston police detective and theater fan, investigates the opening night demise of the untalented leading lady of the musical, “Robbin’ Hood of the Old West.” While trying to solve the mysterious deaths of additional cast and crew members of the show, the lonely gumshoe attempts to save the day and the play, and find love.

Director and music director Francis Anonia is assisted in the Parkland production by choreographer Kelly Jean Graham, technical director Damon Gelb and orchestra director Jim Tully.

With music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and written by Rupert Holmes, “Curtains” is based on the book and concept by Peter Stone.

The musical whodunit premiered in Los Angeles in 2006. The 2007 Broadway production was nominated for eight Tony Awards, receiving one Tony Award.

Featured songs are “Show People,” “Coffee Shop Nights,” “Thataway,” “A Tough Act to Follow” and “I Miss the Music.”
