The Whitehall boys tennis team keeps chugging along, posting two more league victories as they continue to roll up the early wins.

Last week they defeated East Stroudsburg South 6-0. They took every set from the Cavaliers en route to their fourth win of the season.

At No. 1 singles, Nick Rohn defeated Miguel Rettu in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Nick Demjan kept pace at No. 2 singles, downing Crew Bunn, 6-0, 6-1. Josh Mallory completed their singles sweep with a win against Jordan Berkowitz, taking the match 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles, Dan Jablonski and Dan Lim dismantled Aiden Demis and Maliksha Dolga, 6-0, 6-1. The combination of Josh Laky and Serge Kasparian were victorious as well, defeating Griffin Libby and Ethan Grossman, 6-1, 6-4. Finally, Dan Labram and Gabby Roustic defeated TyVaughn Ellisa and Matt Ruiz in a pro set, 8-4.

Head coach Bob Panny said that the victory over the Cavaliers was a good win.

“The kids played well,” he said.

It was also a good day to be on the courts as the sunny weather was a welcome reprieve from the cooler conditions that usually accompany the start of their season.

They got off to a good start against Bethlehem Catholic. They kept up that pace and sent the Golden Hawks home with a 6-1 loss. The Zephs are now 5-2 on the year.

In the league win, Rohn defeated Stephen Botek, 6-2, 6-2. Demjan was also victorious, downing Gabe Velez, 6-1, 6-3. At No. 3 singles. Mallory took care of Anthony Barczynski in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles, Rohn and Demjan won their match, while Jablonski and Lim defeated Sean Van Ormer and Maanik Singh, 6-3, 7-6. Finally, Josh Laky and Serge Kasparian combined to defeat Joshua Maruscak and Justus Bozzi in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

Panny said that they’ve become comfortable in their roles. They’ve had a chance to establish where they’re at, and that’s allowed them to settle in nicely as they reach the midway point of their regular season schedule.

“They’re all comfortable with where they’re at,” said Panny.

He also said that the doubles teams have been working well together, and once Rohn and Demjan begin to mesh as a pair, the Zephs will have another strong combination heading into the second half of the season. He said that they’ll bring what’s been successful for them individually to their partnership as a doubles team.

During one of his games against, Demjan hit a nice backhand winner, executing the shot with a lot of pace.

Rohn was also able to keep his serve and that’s a big part of his game

“When he gets that serve in, it’s tough to return,” said Panny.
