A Salisbury Township resident has raised concerns about alleged noise and other problems at a former popular restaurant along South Pike Avenue.

The resident, who asked a reporter for The Press that his name not be disclosed, broached the matter at the March 28 township board of commissioners’ meeting during the courtesy of the floor portion.

“My main concern is the former Captain’s Table. There’s been some incidents there where the music is very loud,” the man said.

The restaurant operated as the Captain’s Table for many years before reopening as The Mountainside Inn. It closed in 2012.

The facility, described as a banquet facility, is listed on social media as La Cabanita Authentic Mexican Cuisine, which according to media reports opened in 2017, and Le Month Venue, both at 2720 S. Pike Ave., about two blocks north of the township municipal building on the same west side of the busy street.

“I noticed they’re working on cars in the parking lot,” the man complained.

The Salisbury resident, who said he has lived for 24 years in the vicinity of the facility, said during the Thanksgiving 2018 holiday, there were “hundreds in rows of chairs with a deejay outside.”

Said Salisbury Township Assistant Township Manager-Code Enforcement Director Sandy Nicolo at the March 28 meeting, “I did speak to the owner and asked him to be more attentive to what’s going on.”

Nicolo said if there was an outside event taking place at the venue, “They should have come to us about that.”

The venue does not have a Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board retail license to sell alcoholic beverages. Hours for the BYOB restaurant are listed as 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.

“There’s very loud music being played. Who do I call?” the resident asked at the meeting.

Salisbury Township Chief of Police Allen W. Stiles said the lack of a PLCB retail alcohol license makes township enforcement difficult.

“We need to rewrite our noise ordinance to be a lot stronger,” Stiles said, adding, “We’re working on the ordinance now. We don’t have an ordinance that’s easy to enforce. But if we get a complaint, we look into it.”

“So, if it’s BYOB, they BYOB-ed too much and they move into the parking lot. There’s not anything we can do?” board of commissioners Vice President Debra Brinton asked.

Stiles said public intoxication citations and driving under the influence citations could be assessed if merited off-property.

“We can tell them to turn down the music and cite them if they don’t comply,” Stiles said.

According to social media sites, people wanting to hold a party at the South Pike Avenue facility can bring their own food or have the event catered by the venue, which touts Mexican cuisine.

One social media site for Le Mont Venue promotes: “Lounge Fridays – Adult karaoke and New York style Pincho night, Latin night, old school night, Country night (line dancing), live bands, and more. BYOB.”

A website for LeMontVenue.com was apparently inoperative as of the deadline for this article.
