Northampton: Historical program to be held April 6

The Northampton Area Historical Society will be presenting part two of the “Bygone Era - the Second Ward of Northampton” program 10 a.m. April 6 in borough hall, 1401 Laubach Ave.

Larry Oberly, vice president of the society, will be making the presentation. Slides of businesses and important events in the second ward and adjoining Allen Township will be shown.

Northampton Borough is divided into four wards. The first ward and part of the second ward were featured last year. The third ward will be featured June 22, and the fourth will be featured Oct. 19 at the same time and place.

The research for these programs is being done by historical society members Terry Reppert, Marge Oberly and Larry Oberly.

The borough will hold its annual Easter egg hunt 11 a.m. April 13 at Municipal Park, Smith Lane and Laubach Avenue.

Rain date is 1 p.m. April 14.

The event is open to Northampton residents up to age 10.

All participants will receive prizes.

The Hungarian Hall, Stewart and Canal streets, will hold an Easter egg hunt 11:30 a.m. April 14.

The 67th annual Festival of Bands will be held 2:30 p.m. April 28 in the auditorium of Northampton Area High School, 1619 Laubach Ave. The event, featuring the Allentown, Marine, Municipal and Pioneer bands, will present a pops concert with music from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. Enjoy selections from The Association, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Journey, Queen and The Beatles.

The NAHS jazz ensemble will be a special guest.

Admission is free. All freewill offerings collected will benefit Lehigh Valley children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Queenship of Mary Cenacle is sponsoring a bus trip to see the show “Jesus” at Sight & Sound Theatre, Lancaster, May 9.

The cost includes everything but the buffet luncheon at Shady Maple.

Proceeds allow the Cenacle to make monthly charitable donations.
