Bethlehem Catholic: ‘Meet Me in St. Louis’

Bethlehem Catholic’s “Meet Me in St. Louis” relives the early 20th century at 7 p.m. April 5, 6, 12, 13, and 3 p.m. April 7, auditorium, Bethlehem Catholic High School, 2133 Madison Avenue, Bethlehem.

It’s summer of 1903 and the Smith family eagerly awaits the 1904 World’s Fair. During the course of a year, Alonso Smith’s wife and daughters cope with his decision to move the family from their beloved St. Louis to New York City.

The Becahi production is directed and choreographed by Debbie Acampora with music director and pit conductor Joseph Fink assisting.

With music and lyrics by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane, and book by Hugh Wheeler, the musical is based on the 1944 MGM film of the same title that starred Judy Garland.

The musical debuted in 1989 on Broadway, receiving four 1990 Tony Award nominations.

Popular featured songs include “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “The Boy Next Door,” “The Trolley Song,” “Skip to My Lou, and “Whenever I’m with You.”
