The William Allen High School theater department rejoices with “Sister Act,” a musical featuring a disco diva hiding from mobsters in a convent, with show times at 7 p.m. April 4, 5, 6, and 2 p.m. April 7, John F. McHugh Auditorium, William Allen High School, 106 N. 17th St., Allentown.
When singer Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder while she is in protective custody, she hides her identity by dressing as a nun. Deloris uses her talents to inspire the choir and brings new life to the church and community.
John T. Sechler directs with support from choreographer and assistant director Dawn Blanco, music director Brandon Remp, technical director Marc Hissam, conductor Eric Moser and costumer Karen Comegys.
With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and book by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner, the musical is based on the 1992 Touchstone Pictures film “Sister Act” written by Joseph Howard. Additional book material is by Douglas Carter Beane.
The 2011 Broadway production received five Tony Award nominations.
Music numbers include “Take Me To Heaven,” “Fabulous, Baby!,” “Sunday Morning Fever,” “The Life I Never Led” and “Raise Your Voice.”
