STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q. Who are the members of your family?

A. The members of my family include my parents Jon and Deann, my sister Kaitlyn, my brother Jack and my dog Thea.

Q. What do you most enjoy about being a senior at Emmaus High School?

A. I enjoy being a part of and leading the student sections at sporting events, including the football and basketball games. Also, I enjoy having senior privileges, such as early dismissal, parking and eating lunch on the senior stage.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is math. This is because I enjoy working with numbers and equations. Also, the real world connections with math and our everyday life intrigues me.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. Yes. I received a Congressional nomination from Congresswoman Susan Wild to the United States Military Academy at West Point. In addition, I have received the German I Award for academic excellence and I am a member of National Honor Society for high school students in German. I am also a member of National Honor Society and have earned Principal’s Honor Roll numerous times.

Q. What are your favorite extracurricular activities?

A. Some of my favorite extracurricular activities include playing lacrosse and running cross country for Emmaus High School. Also, I enjoy volunteering with the Hornet Ambassadors, the Freshman Mentors and STEM Fun at the Emmaus Public Library. In my free time, I also enjoy hanging out with my friends and family.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. After high school, my goal is to attend the United States Military Academy and I plan to study mechanical engineering. I wish to become an officer in the U.S. Army to serve and protect our country.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge to date was my speech impediment. I had a surgical procedure performed which forced me to relearn how to articulate sounds. I had to take speech classes weekly and practiced daily at home. After 13 years of hard work, I have overcome this obstacle.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered as a nice and kind person who would always lend a helping hand and that I was a leader inside and outside the classroom.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my family, coaches, teachers and friends. This is because they all, in their unique way, have impacted me and pushed me to achieve my goals and to become a better person.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. My advice would be to dedicate yourself to achieve your goals; hard work goes a long way and you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
