Richard D. Ackerman, 81, of Northampton, died March 19, 2019, at VNA Hospice House at St. Luke’s, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Judith A. (Amadore) Ackerman for 41 years.
Born in Weaversville, he was a son of the late Roy H. and Myrtle P. (Yong) Ackerman.
He was a 1954 graduate of Liberty High School, Bethlehem. He earned a technical degree from the GM Institute of Technology of Michigan in 1958.
He was, for eight years, a sergeant and 1st Gunner in Battery C Gun Battalion in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
He owned Ackerman Advertising, Northampton, for the past 30 years. He and his wife Judy co-owned and operated Ackerman’s Corner, Northampton, from 1975 to 2001.
He attended St. John’s United Church of Christ, Weaversville.
He was a Northampton Borough councilman for more than 20 years, a member of the zoning board and chairman of the Civil Service Committee. He was a member of the Allentown Armory and the 12 Apostles. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Porter Lodge No. 284, North Catasauqua.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Charlotte A. and her husband Archie Campbell of York; a son, Richard F. and his wife Kelly of Northampton; a stepson, Clyde W. and his wife Joan Seigle of Bedminster, N.J.; a sister, Patricia Brennan and her fiance Thomas Sands of Bethlehem; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
