STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q. Who are the members of your family?
A. My family is fairly small and it includes my mother Reacky, my father Charssen and myself. I have no siblings or pets.
Q. What do you most enjoy about being a senior?
A. If I were to use one word to summarize every senior benefit at Emmaus, that word would be “flexibility.” As with many other seniors, this year has been noticeably more flexible than previous years, especially with the opportunity to drive to and from school.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. Without a doubt, AP Physics is my favorite subject, and it has been for the past three years. The classes are both intriguing and challenging, and of course, they’re taught by two of the best teachers in the school: Mr. Ohl and Mrs. Wilson.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I’ve received two bronze medals for the national French exam, as well as first and second place finishes at the state-level PJAS science fair. I’m in National Honor Society and French Honor Society, and last year, I also received the AP Scholar Award with Distinction. This year, I’m a National Merit Finalist and with the Academic Team, we have collectively qualified for two national competitions – one in Washington, D.C. and another in Atlanta.
Q. What are your favorite extracurricular activities?
A. It’s difficult for me to choose favorites among activities that I enjoy doing, but my top two would consist of piano and martial arts. Piano is a source of relaxation for me and it is a true stress-reliever after a long day. Martial arts allows me to push myself both mentally and physically, and by being an assistant instructor, I’ve strengthened my patience and communication skills.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. Immediately after high school, I’d say the next goal is to completely relax, refresh and start with a clean slate before entering a successful college career.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. Long-term time management, for sure. For the past four years, it has taken considerable effort and patience to create effective plans and manage my time properly, and in hindsight, it has definitely been worth it.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. My willingness to help, kindness and terrible Academic Team answers that have turned into inside jokes.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I admire my friends, all of which bring a great deal of wisdom and humor to my life. And a genuine thank you to those that continue to inspire me.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. As a wise poet once said, “Do or do not, there is no try.”
