District News: Zephyr Art Gallery to host comics artist March 21

From 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. March 21, Zephyr Art Gallery will host an after-school art reception with comics artist Scott Hanna at Whitehall High School, 3800 Mechanicsville Road.

A top inker in the comic book industry, Hanna has been drawing and inking comics for 30 years. His work has been published in more than 100 graphic novels, and he has inked 21,000-plus pages of comics art. He is known for his very adaptable inking work and finishes that enhance the pencil work of a wide variety of artistic styles.

At DC Comics, he worked on most of its major titles, most notably a five-year run on Detective Comics starring Batman.

At Marvel Comics, he worked on all the top characters at the company, including Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, Thor and Wolverine.

The Zephyr Art Gallery has been an instructional resource for students over the past 10 years, exhibiting regional artists such as Doug Wiltraut, Andrew Kish, Adriano Farinella and Giancarlo DeMarchi, to name a few.

Refreshments and more will be provided by Zephyr Pride Foundation, which is a nonprofit educational foundation for Whitehall-Coplay School District.
