Washington Township supervisors will advertise an ordinance amending provisions regarding target ranges and the regulation of group homes, small and large, which will be by special exception.

Resident Kevin Gombart asked, at the board’s March 5 meeting, if there were to be regulations on the target range.

Supervisor Chairman Josh Friebolin said a 75-yard distance from roads or structures will be required.

Zoning Officer Todd Weidman said a backstop will be required at the ranges.

Supervisor Vice Chairman Tim O’Brian said the distance will be measured from actual houses and not just the lot line. Shooting will have to be in a direction away from roads and houses. A sufficient height barrier is needed for the backstop so rounds cannot go over and ricochet.

Weidman said it will be reevaluated. There will be a public hearing for the ordinance 7 p.m. April 10.

Money was released as budgeted to the district attorney’s office for the child abuse investigator, $100; Lehigh Gap Nature Center, $3,000; and Friedens Fire Company, $22,000.

Grove Street and part of Route 873 will be closed for the 2019 Halloween Parade.

A new auditor, Dennis Barley, was named to replace Dale Rex who resigned in February.

Emergency Management Coordinator Sherry Graver said she received a letter from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency stating the 5-year hazard mitigation plan was approved.
