Coplay: Library board will meet March 14

The Coplay Public Library board will meet 7 p.m. March 14 at Coplay Borough Hall, 98 S. Fourth St.

The library, located at 49 S. Fifth St., will also show two free movies March 16 - “The Gnome-Mobile” 11:30 a.m. and “Leap Year” 1:30 p.m.

St. John’s Lutheran Church reports it will have a community dinner 4-6 p.m. March 23 in the church hall, 18 S. Third St.

The dinner is open to the public and will feature shepherd’s pie with all the trimmings.

The borough’s public works department personnel have mounted an all-hands-on-board effort in attacking potholes on streets and alleys.

Supervisor Paul Boyle said the depressions on roads stretch all across the borough. He said workers are addressing the potholes by filling the depressions with cold patch, a material Boyle contends should hold up.

Street sweeping of all roads in the borough will be held in May by a private contractor. Residents can sweep the grit and grime from their sidewalks onto the street for the cleaning.

Plans are underway for the annual tire drop-off. The date has yet to be confirmed; however, it will be in May.

The tires go to Lafarge Cement Company for burning in its kilns.
