BASD: Snow make-up dates
BASD has will have a half -day of morning school and a teacher in-service in the afternoon April 18 There will be a full day of school April 22. At this time, the last student day remains as June 7, 2019. That date is subject to change depending on future snow days.
BASD: Foundation dinner March 19
The Foundation for the BASD will have its dinner celebration this year at 5:30 p.m. March 19 at the Sands Event Center. To learn more about The Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District, or inquire about dinner sponsorship or tickets, please call 610-861-0500, ext. 60255.
BASD: Student art work on display
The Bethlehem Area School District will be showing a student art exhibition, “Leading The Way Through Art,” at the Bethlehem Town Hall Rotunda Gallery from March 24 to May 2. There will be an opening reception Sunday, March 24 from 2 - 4 p.m. The Rotunda Gallery is located at 10 E. Church St. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This exhibition is a combined effort of the Bethlehem Area School District’s art teachers. Art is an integral part of the learning process and gives a student a chance to explore the material world. In this exhibition will be but a small part of the wonderful body of artwork produced by the many children in the classrooms on a daily basis.
The artists are Bethlehem students enrolled in the BASD public schools. They range in age from kindergarten through high school. Although they are very different from each other, all of these children share the joy of expressing themselves through the media of the visual arts.
LIBERTY HS: Students earn art awards
Two Liberty HS students won East Central Pennsylvania Scholastic Art Awards. Sophomore Hailey DePietro earned an Honorable Mention for her watercolor, “Cold Colors”.
Senior Fatima Montero earned a Gold Key for her portfolio entitled “Liberty for All.” She submitted 11 pieces in total and all received either Honorable Mention, Silver Key, or Gold Keys. Her piece “Coleman” received a monetary Juror’s Award and was nominated for the American Vision award. The winner of this award will be decided on at the national level. As a Gold Key recipient, her portfolio will go on to the national competition in New York.
The regional exhibition is on display at Kutztown University through March 15.
NITSCHMANN ES: Student a GeoBee finalist
Nitschmann MS seventh grader Rowan Walters was notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of the semifinalists to compete in the 2019 National Geographic GeoBee PA State Competition. The contest will be held at State Museum of PA in Harrisburg March 29. Best wishes and congrats Rowan!
CHARTER ARTS: Fundraiser set for March 16
The Charter Arts Foundation will hold its second annual Art of Wine Tasting & Auction from 6 to 9 p.m. March 16 at the Saucon Valley Country Club, 2050 Saucon Valley Road. The fundraiser benefits the health, welfare and educational interests of the Lehigh Valley Charter HS for the Arts.
There will be wine and food pairings, music by the Charter Arts Music Department, and live and silent auctions. To purchase tickets, visit www.charterartsfoundation.org.
