Salisbury High School holds college information night
Parents gathered at Salisbury High School 6:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 26. to listen to information on the college process presented by school guidance counselors, college representatives and a current student.
Guidance Counselor Mike Anderson presented information on SAT testing, the common app, college fairs, open houses and more. He talked about a free service offered to all students that is advantageous for college and career searches. It is called career cruising; the login information can be found on the high school’s website.
Guidance Counselor Lee Ann Krinner discussed letters of recommendation, awards, FAFSA and financial aid. She mentioned financial aid night, which will be held at the high school Sept. 30.
Michael Burke with Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, presented information and answered financial aid questions.
Guidance Counselor Allison Moyer presented parents with information on transcripts, National Collegiate Athletic Association and playing D1 and D2 sports and the requirements at colleges.
Last to speak was student representative and senior at Salisbury Katie Denver. She talked about the process of applying to schools, touring campuses and the importance of keeping a list of all clubs and activities as this comes in handy when filling out the common app online.
The information was provided in a clear and thorough manner and parents were able to ask questions throughout the presentation.
Eight college representatives answered questions and talked about the admissions process and what colleges look for, including Brenna Zimpfer, Cedar Crest College; Jaime Malandra, DeSales University; Tim Hahn, Kutztown University; Chuck Bachman, Lafayette College; Nancy Kelly, Lehigh Carbon Community College; Alyson Remsing, Moravian College; Michael Damweber, Penn State University and Cierra Steele, Wilkes University.
