Salisbury High School presents “Honk!,” a “fowl”-language, but family-friendly musical based on “The Ugly Duckling,” a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. It flocks to the stage at 7 p.m. March 14, 15, 16, and 3 p.m. March 17, auditorium, Salisbury High School, 500 E. Montgomery St., Salisbury Township.
“We chose ‘Honk!’ for our students for two reasons. The first is that there is ample opportunity for students to shine. The second reason, which ultimately ties with the first, is that the message ‘Honk!’ shares is special because it reminds the audience that being ‘different than’ does not mean one is ‘less than’ and that our differences make us stronger,” says director Will Windsor Erwin.
He is assisted by music director Amanda Carol Pascale, choreographer Kirsten Almeida, set designer-technical director Chris West, lighting director Scott Ross, student stage manager Rory Watson, and student assistant stage manager Logan Woods.
The show, with book and lyrics by Anthony Drewe, and music by George Stiles, opened in 1997 in Scarborough, England. “Honk!” premiered in 2000 in the United States in Nyack, N.Y.
Notable songs include “A Poultry Tale,” “The Joy of Motherhood,” “Hold Your Head Up High,” “Different” and “You Can Play with Your Food.”
