LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

UPPER AND LOWER MILFORD COLUMN

Happy March! Reportedly the groundhog did not see his shadow last month, so we’re hoping for spring weather soon.

One sign spring is on its way is daylight saving time. It starts March 10, so don’t forget to set your clocks forward one hour.

Another calendar note: Tonight, March 6, is Ash Wednesday. This means Easter will be late this year; in fact, April 21, which is about as late as it can be.

St. Peter’s Union Church is once again joining with sister congregation Huff’s Union Church for Lenten services, which begin at Huff’s Church 7 p.m. tonight.

Subsequently, Lenten services will be held every Wednesday until Easter, starting at St. Peter’s March 13, and alternating between the two churches after that. There will be a supper 6 p.m. followed by worship service 7 p.m.

Check your church newsletter for information about services Ash Wednesday and during Lent.

The Upper Milford Historical Society meets the last Thursday of every month except November and December in the Upper Milford Township building. Refreshments are served and everyone is welcome. On March 28, Rose Parry will present “A Hill Full of Ministers: The Corning Hill Colony.” Reminisce through the words of family members about life in the summer cottages that flourished among the hills of Corning Road in Powder Valley years ago. For information, call 610-966-4376.

Upper Milford Youth Association spring soccer registration closes March 15. Details about the soccer programs can be found on the UMYA website, www.umya.org, under the soccer tab. If you have any questions or concerns not addressed on the website, email umyasoccer@gmail.com.

UMYA is looking for volunteers to help with the soccer program. If interested, either note that on your registration or email the above address. The success of the program is completely dependent upon parent volunteer coaches, assistants and team moms and dads; consider stepping up to coach or help out this spring.
