Lincoln Leadership Academy presents a Victorian era tale of stark class differences with “A Little Princess,” 7:30 p.m. March 8, 9, and 2 p.m. March 9 and 10, Samuels Theatre, Tompkins College Center, Cedar Crest College, 100 College Drive, Allentown.
Based on the 1905 children’s novel, “A Little Princess” by Frances Hodgson Burnett, the musical follows the trials of a young wealthy British girl in a London boarding school. She is separated from her father, an adventurer on a trek to Timbuktu.
“The musical is not often performed and packs a punch. The students at Lincoln Leadership hope to continue to build on the success of the theater program and what it means in their personal lives, to their school, and to the community,” says Director Tasia Gilbert, who with her family founded the theater and choral group, Sing for America.
Assisting Gilbert are choreographer Taryn Gilbert, music director Vanessa Jacobs, and sound designer Andy Tu.
The show has music by Andrew Lippa, and book and lyrics by Brian Crawley.
The musical premiered in 2004 in Palo Alto, Calif., and later played off-Broadway.
Songs include “Good Luck, Bonne Chance,” “Timbuktu,” “Let Your Heart Be Your Compass,” “Soldier On” and “Soon.”
