LOWHILL TWP: Activities offered at LV Zoo

Lehigh Valley Zoo, 5150 Game Preserve Road, Schnecksville, is hosting National Pig Day on March 2.

Stop by the barnyard at 12:30 p.m. for a chance to meet the zoo’s pot-bellied pigs, Helga and Penelope.

World Wildlife Day will be celebrated on March 3 at the zoo.

Experience a real-life wolf feeding at the Mexican Gray Wolf exhibit at 10:30 a.m.

There will be an interactive keeper chat at the Scimitar Horned Oryx exhibit at 12:30 p.m.

The education department will be inside the Nature Store with some of the zoo’s animal ambassadors from 12:50 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

There will also be a fun lineup of wildlife crafts and activities including safari binoculars, a scavenger hunt and guided tours.

Penguin Meet and Greet, featuring one of the zoo’s African Black-footed penguins, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on March 8.

Story time with an educator is scheduled for 10:30-11:30 a.m. March 9.

Experience an up-close look at one of the zoo’s animal ambassadors.

The zoo will host Birds of Prey Day on March 10 with bird-themed crafts and activities including bird masks, oil spill simulations and pellet dissection.

Meet the zoo’s sloth, Bean, at the Sloth Meet-and-Greet between 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on March 12.

Christ’s Church at Lowhill, 4695 Lowhill Church Road, New Tripoli, will have its Ash Wednesday service 6 p.m. March 6 with imposition of ashes and alter communion.

The church is cooking up a St. Patty’s Day dinner 4-7 p.m. March 16 in the social hall.

Menu includes corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, carrots, tossed salad or applesauce, roll, dessert and beverage.

The child’s menu includes hot dog, mac and cheese, dessert and beverage. Entertainment will be by DJ Jason.

Morgenland Union Church, 3120 Weidasville Road, Orefield, will have its Ash Wednesday service with Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes 7 p.m. March 6.

There will be soup suppers at 6:30 p.m. with a Lenten discussion at 7:30 p.m. March 13, 20 and 27.

The church is accepting orders until March 3 for its hoagie sale.

Choose either regular, ham and cheese, turkey, roast beef with everything, peppers or onion or no peppers or onions, tuna and veggie.

Ingredients supplied by Thomson’s Meat Market, Walnutport.

Pickup is 4-6 p.m. March 12.
