The Emmaus Historical Society and Emmaus Main Street Partners will co-host Lucky Bucks Bingo, 2-5 p.m. March 24 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 502 Chestnut St. Doors open 1 p.m. A snack bar will be available. Tickets may be purchased at Emmaus Jewel Shop LLC, 339 Main St., David’s Electric, 314 Main St. or at the door. Purchase early, as tickets are limited. Emmaus Borough Council meets 7 p.m. March 4 and 18 in council chambers at borough hall, 19 S. Fourth St.
The E-waste Recycling Center, located at the public works facility behind Top Star on Kline’s Lane, will open noon to 6 p.m. March 11. It is open the second Monday of the month through November. The Compost Center located on Kline’s Lane opens March 6. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. For information, visit borough.emmaus.pa.us.
The Emmaus Historical Society programs this spring are “Celebrate the Celebrations.” Each program features the story behind each historical celebration from the past. Corresponding displays for each celebration, with photos and memorabilia, will be simultaneously exhibited in the museum.
The program for 7 p.m. March 21 (please note: the meeting is being held on a Thursday due to Lent) is “The Emaus World War I Homecoming Celebration of 1919” presented by Bill Barto. The society meetings are held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. All are welcome.

The Emmaus Historical Society will host a bus trip to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse, Hampton, N.J., to see the musical, “Take Me Away,” April 23 and a bus trip to the same playhouse to see the comedy, “Over the River and Through the Woods,” June 11. The Emmaus Garden Club will meet noon March 5 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St. The program will be “Live Interactive Designing,” presented by Richard Morrissey of RichMar Florists. The Emmaus Senior Citizens group meets 1 p.m. every Friday at St. Matthew’s E.C. Church, Fifth and Ridge streets. All local senior citizens are invited to attend the meetings. The programs for March are March 1: Rachel, Ridge Manor Center’s manager, will visit to describe some of the programs at Ridge Manor; March 8: Dick Roberts, musician; March 15: Fred Arnold, musician; March 22: Glenn Pritchard, musician and March 29 is game day.

This year, 2019, the Emmaus Flag Day Association will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The association has planned a special Flag Day program June 14. As part of the program, the association is seeking poetry and essay writing contest winners from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s who would be agreeable to read their poems or essays at the June 14 celebration. The Emmaus Public Library 11 E. Main St., invites everyone, not just youngsters, to come out to celebrate Read Across America 10:15 a.m. March 2. The Reading for FUN celebration includes stories, crafts and cake. The family film, “A Wrinkle in Time,” will air 2 p.m.
Plan to attend a Pinterest party at the library 7 p.m. March 4 and make your own Mardi Gras mask to ring in Fat Tuesday.
Miss Jolie will bring nature indoors with Buckets Full of Nature 4:30 p.m. March 13.
There will be a Quidditch Scrimmage 10:15 a.m. March 16 on the library’s lawn. This program is for all ages. Don’t forget to wear your house colors.
The library will offer a program for elementary aged students on American Sign Language 6 p.m. March 20. Register at the front desk for this free class with Margie Kavch. The Emmaus Public Library will host its second annual Books ‘N’ Beer event at Yergey’s Brewing Nano-Brewery and Triple Sun Spirits, 518 Bank St. 6 to 8 p.m. March 20 for over age 21 lovers of good books and local ales. The ticket price includes entry into event, food and a chance to win the “Reader’s Winter Survival Basket.” Yergey’s products will be available for sale. The event also features basket raffles, cool bookmarks and a book swap (bring a book to swap). Tickets are on sale at the library. The Emmaus Kiwanis Club will host a “Quarters for a Cause Paddle Bingo” fundraiser 2 to 5 p.m. March 24 at the Macungie Fire Company #1, 31 S. Walnut St., Macungie. The public is invited to come try paddle bingo for a cause. The admission price includes one free paddle with a number on it. Additional paddles are available at additional cost. The Woman’s Club of Emmaus will honor the accomplishments of the Girls of the Month at its March meeting. The club meets 7 p.m. March 25 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. The honorees have been selected by the specific departments within Emmaus High School.

Plan ahead: The deadline for ordering bricks for the May 26 Veterans Remembrance ceremony at Emmaus Remembrance Garden located on the grounds of the Knauss Homestead, 164 E. Main St. (rear) is April 7. This is the 13th annual veterans’ bricks installation ceremony. To date 350 veterans bricks have been installed.
