A four-year full tuition scholarship was up for grabs Feb. 2 when Cedar Crest College hosted its 10th annual Scholarship Competition Day.

Students from 15 states and Puerto Rico participated in the contest, which included three sections of true and false and multiple choice questions on: history, art, humanities, social science, biology, chemistry, mathematics and logic.

The 143 high schoolers also completed a written essay.

The top five finalists then continued to the interview portion of the competition.

“The purpose of the competition is to bring high-achieving students to the campus, where they and their families can discover the many opportunities available at Cedar Crest College, and the college’s mission of educating future leaders through scholarships, global connectivity, wellness and service,” Cedar Crest College Communications and Content Manager Katie Kennedy said.

The college’s Associate Director Brenna Zimpfer also commented on the competition.

Zimpfer said students were selected to attend based on their academic record and profile.

She said students who placed between 11th and 25th included: Sylver Boyer, Hamburg; Deidre Byers, Hanover; Lam Doan, Allentown; Khushali Vyas, Pottstown; Madison Bates, Deland, Fla.; Amanda Endy, Pottstown; Olivia Thomas, Wrightsville; Hannah Ashbach, Hermantown, Minn.; Patsy Holtz, Cambridge, Md., Taylor McShane, Allentown; Khoula Jaber, Whitehall; Tamar Adelsohn, Jackson Heights, N.Y.; and Nashelit Ochoa, and Rachael Alulis, both of Whitehall; and Meredith Fitzgerald, no address given. Students who place in sixth to 10th place were: Audra Bratis, Plumsteadville; Nicolette Florence, Collegeville; Kathleen Graham, Weatherly; Taylor Wolf, Townsend, Del., and Megan Dunkle, Blandon.

The top five students were: Francine Lamasko, Freeland; Genevieve Ashley, King of Prussia; Annie Kreiser, Harrisburg; Mancy Lay, Front Royal, Va., and Deniz Denizer, Staten Island, N.Y.

“All students who attended received an additional $2,000 over four years in scholarship money ($500 per year),” Kimpfer stated. “The top 11 to 25 received an additional $4,000 over four years ($1,000 per year).”

Zimpfer said participants finishing in sixth to 10th place received an additional $6,400 over four years ($1,600 per year). Those in second- to fifth-place receive an additional $8,000 over four years ($2,000 per year).
