Hokendauqua: Scholarship deadline nearing
Hokendauqua Park and Playground Association will again award two $1,000 Bob Warke-Dale Horn scholarships. The organization will select one girl and one boy at the March/April meetings to receive the scholarships.
To be eligible for the scholarship, you must be a Class of 2019 high school-eligible graduate, be continuing your education in the fall of 2019, must have participated in HPPA’s baseball, softball or basketball youth programs and must complete the scholarship application form and return it to HPPA by Feb. 28.

St. John’s United Church of Christ, Mickleys, 2918 MacArthur Road, will be holding an “ashes to go” event from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., both March 6.
Just drive in, receive your ashes and head on out to your destination.
Also, an Ash Wednesday service will be held 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Mark your calendar for Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church’s 15th annual basket social. The event will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. March 2 and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. March 3, with the drawing 1:30 p.m., in the lower-level, rear entrance of the 3355 MacArthur Road site. You do not need to be present to win.
The kitchen will be open both days.
Snow dates are March 9 and 10.

Whitehall Lions Club will have a basket social 9 a.m.-2 p.m. March 30 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church. The prize drawing and pickup will be 2-4 p.m.
Food, bottled water and soda will be available for purchase.
The club is looking for donations for the baskets. If you would like to donate, drop it off at Whitehall Township Public Library, 3700 Mechanicsville Road.

The walking tour of the historic town of Hokendauqua, which was postponed in October 2018 because of rain, has been rescheduled for April 27. There is a rain date of 11 a.m.-3 p.m. May 4.
Whitehall Township Commissioner Jeffrey Dutt said the free, hourlong tours will be given between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and are hosted by Whitehall Historical Preservation Society.
Dutt said the tour will begin at First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua, 3005 S. Front St.

HPPA is hosting a designer purse bingo, featuring Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors and Vera Bradley items, April 28 at Victor C. Talotta Park in Cementon. Doors open noon, and bingo begins 1 p.m.
Also available at the event will be specials, door prizes, a Chinese auction and food.
All proceeds will benefit HPPA.
