Golden Key to get new turn lane

At the board’s Feb. 11 meeting, Peter Terry of Benchmark Engineering, Allentown, presented plans to Weisenberg Township supervisors for road widening at the interchange of Golden Key Road and I-78.

A right-turn-only lane will be added to the southbound side of Golden Key Road for easier entrance onto I-78.

A camera will be installed at the intersection on the northwest corner of I-78 to monitor traffic.

PennDOT will assume responsibility for the camera.

Electronics recycling dates were presented. March 16 and Sept. 28 were given as days township residents may bring electronics for recycling to the Weisenberg Township Volunteer Fire Company.

Deputy Chief Matt Krapf, representing the fire company, stated firefighters responded to 22 calls to date.

In addition, the fire company is taking orders for corn pie and sticky buns.

The orders must be in by Feb. 26 for delivery March 7. The fire company received a grant from the state in the amount of $12,997.11.

This money will be used for apparatus and equipment maintenance.

Roadmaster Tony Werley was given authorization to purchase a leaf trailer from Upper Macungie for $3,000.

A field inspection of the Bandit Truck Stop for the placement of slot-machine video gambling terminals will take place.

Township Administrator Brian Carl will be present at the inspection.

The township has voiced opposition to this proposal as the use is not permitted in that zoning district, the property has a failing septic system and the terminals will bring increased traffic.

Conditional approval has already been granted by the state.
