UPPER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP: Library offering Valentine’s Day programs for kids, adults

Parkland Community Library, 4422 Walbert Avenue, South Whitehall Township, will be offering a restorative yoga class with Karen Klubertanz from Five Paths at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 19.

The library is hosting an Anti-Valentine’s Day party for kids in grades six through 12 at 1 p.m. Feb. 16.

Create a rude heart craft and take a swing at a piñata while munching on plenty of snacks.

Everyone is invited to play bridge, pinochle, canasta or chess at the library’s Games We Love program 1 p.m. Feb. 15.

Library staff will provide the games.

Baby story time with picture books, rhymes and songs for children ages birth to 2 years old will be offered 10:30 a.m. Feb. 18, 25.

A caregiver must attend with each child.

Preschool story time for children 3-5 years is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Feb. 20, 21, 27 and 28.

A caregiver must remain in the library.

Toddler story time with stories, songs and rhymes for kids 18 months to 3 years old will be held 10:30 a.m. Feb. 19, 20, 26 and 27.

The library will be showing the movie “Best Year of Our Lives” during Brown Bag Classics 1 p.m. Feb. 18. Bring lunch. Beverages will be provided.

Book Quest will meet 7-8 p.m. Feb. 19 to discuss the novel “Up Against You” by Fredrik Bachman.

Kids come and join the library’s Young Critics Book Club to discuss the novel “Bob” by Nicholas Gannon 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21.

A DIY fun day of making craft projects is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Feb. 21.

There will be trivia, prizes and a light meal at the library’s Soup to Nuts Trivia Night 5 p.m. Feb. 21.

Learn how to decrease stress at the Joy of Coloring class for adults 3 p.m. Feb. 27.

The library staff will provide the coloring pages, pencils and free snacks.

Join the library’s knitting and crocheting circle 2-4 p.m. Feb. 28.

Bring knitting materials and spend an afternoon swapping knitting and crocheting tips and tricks.

All these programs are free and held at the library.

Registration is needed to attend the yoga class, movie, book clubs, preschool story times, Anti-Valentines Day party, Trivia Night and DIY Fun day.

Zion’s Union Church Maxatawny, 329 Church Road, Kutztown, will be having a Relay for Life Team brunch after the worship service Feb. 24 to raise funds for this year’s event.

There will be breakfast and lunch items, and yummy deserts.

Everyone is invited to attend.

Upper Macungie Township is offering a hunter/trapper education course from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 17 at Independent Park, 150 Independent Road, Breinigsville.

Registration is required to attend.

The township, in partnership with The Nanny Loft, will be offing a one-day Safesitter Essentials course 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 18 at Independent Park, 150 Independent Road, Breinigsville.

The class is designed to prepare participants in grades six to 12 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings or baby-sitting,

Class content includes safety, child care, fire aid and rescue skills and life and business skills.
