Lehigh County 4-H recently presented the Friend of 4-H Award to someone who continually supports the 4-H program and the youth involved.

“For many years, we have interacted with this individual at 4-H events,” said Kelly M. Weisner, extension educator with 4-H youth development at the Lehigh County Cooperative Extension. “On many occasions, he speaks to others about the value of this great program.

“We recognize state Rep. Gary Day, R-187th, as the Lehigh County Friend of 4-H.”

Weisner said Day communicates with and inspires Lehigh County’s current 4-H members to find their paths to a successful 4-H experience and future life.

Day visits 4-H Club meetings when invited to share what it means to serve others.

“He takes the time to work with the 4-H staff to continue to enhance this excellent program for the residents of Lehigh County,” Weisner said. “Each year, we are honored to have him congratulate our members at the 4-H banquet.”

Day was joined by his family and fellow legislative staff at the November 2018 banquet to acknowledge his significant contributions to the youth and adults in the 4-H program.

“Congratulations to Day on this very deserving award,” Weisner said. “Thank you for your all you do in the 4-H community,” Weisner said.

For the sixth year, Lehigh County 4-H has recognized one unique 4-H Club leader for his or her outstanding service, commitment and passion.

The 4-H Board accepted a few nominations this year and looks forward to receiving submissions for next year’s winner from 4-H members, Weisner stated.

“We encourage members to continue to nominate their very deserving leader,” she added.

This year’s recipient was a 4-H member just a few years ago and now dedicates her time to helping young people learn an essential skill: sewing.

“We are proud to present this award to Hannah Geiger,” she said. “The nomination form indicates that this leader is outstanding.

“She has exciting ideas and can fix any problem that occurs while sewing.”

Each week, Hannah works on different sewing projects with the members of the Neffs Clovers 4-H Club, which is something they all look forward to, Weisner said.

4-H member, Krista, 11, nominated Geiger, who taught her how to thread and use a sewing machine, sew a button and hole, an invisible zipper, lining, and hem.

“Hannah, we recognize your time, your sewing knowledge, your experience and most of all, your patience. Thank you for your all you do in the 4-H community,” Weisner said.
