Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong visited Washington Township’s Feb. 5 board of supervisors’ meeting.

Armstrong told the board he wants to be sure the county is involved with all 25 municipalities in Lehigh.

A newsletter will be mailed out in May so all 150,000 families will know where their tax money is going, he said.

“I get a visitor every now and then who keeps me in the know about this area of the county,” he said, turning to resident Ed Ziegler.

Northern Valley Ambulance Corps Executive Director Kristie Wilk reported there were 3,786 calls answered by NOVA last year.

In Washington Township, there were 571 calls, and the ambulance corps answered 379 mutual aid calls in Walnutport, North Whitehall, Washington, Heidelberg and Slatington. She said the corps is now fully staffed.

Supervisor Josh Friebolin said the township is satisfied with the service it receives from NOVA.

A letter of thanks was received from Meals on Wheels for a $100 donation. The letter stated the organization provides 500,000 meals per year in the county.

Junkyard license renewals were approved for Mark Yeanish, 6855 Old Grange Road; Jack and Kyle Follweiler, 6932 Jay St.; Victor Hanna, 4162 Best Station Road; Clay Sauerwine, 3148 Spring Valley Road; and Siberinei and Son Container Service, 2861 Cemetery St.

A resignation letter was received from Dale Rex as township auditor.

Delinquent per capita and real estate taxes were sent to Berkheimer and Associates. Delinquent streetlight and fire hydrant taxes were also sent for collection.

John Kisthart was reappointed to be on the board of directors for Slatington Public Library.

A planning module to repair a small-flow treatment facility (septic system) at 3342 Friedens Road was approved.

During public comment, Ziegler said on April 8 a donkey basketball game will be held in Slatington at the Northern Lehigh High School.

He said engineer Larry Turocsy has retired but when he gets caught up on work he will provide the list of roads that qualify for the state’s liquid fuel money.

As he did last month, Ziegler said fog lines should be painted along Old Mill Road.
