Coplay: Breakfast planned for Feb. 17

Commitment to Family and Community, 165 Cherry St., will hold an all-you-can-eat breakfast 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Feb. 17.

The 150th anniversary committee is adding the finishing touches for the borough’s celebration, beginning with an April 6 kickoff banquet at the American Club of Coplay pavilion, 300 Cherry St.

Coplay Public Library is accepting artifacts and memorabilia of the town’s history for its display. The collection, thus far, includes a Coplay High School Wildcats jersey, a CHS gym bag, a 1969 borough centennial wooden nickel, plates and photographs.

The library stated it will have displays in April, May and June with different special themes relating to the 150th incorporation of the borough.

Coplay Sports youth basketball and cheerleading teams’ winter programs are drawing to a close. The organization is setting its sights on boys baseball and girls softball. An announcement regarding registration is expected to be made shortly.

Coplay Athletic Club is accepting new members and renewals from present members.

The club operates a fitness center with weights and more on the second floor of the borough municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St.

Gym renewals can be made by placing your name in an envelope through the slot at the gym door.

Coplay Cemetery Association has responded to an increasing trend in cremations and installed a columbarium. Incorporated in 1875, the cemetery is public and not affiliated with any religion.

Residents are reminded borough refuse personnel are not picking up plastic grocery bags on recycling days. Food markets, such as Giant, have containers for such bags.
