On Jan. 26 the basketball booster clubs from Northwestern Lehigh High School sponsored a comedy night at the Lynnport Fire Company.

Rosemarie Lister, president of the girls boosters; Kelly Hallman, vice president of the boys boosters; and Nadine Sevrain, vice president of the girls boosters were all busy getting things ready for the expected 200 people who would be coming for an evening of laughs.

The trio were wearing Hoop It Up Tigers badges.

All money comes back to the basketball programs for such things as equipment and food, said Lister.

The evening was not only a bring-your-own bottle but a bring-your-own-food event.

People came with baskets of food, slow cookers, platters of cold cuts and beverages, plus whatever else someone thought would make a good indoor picnic.

Rick Petrovic said the comedians came from all over and included Glen Jensen, a feature artist, who was in the movie “Footprints” and Pat O’Donnell, the highlight of the evening, who has been on Comedy Central, A&E’s Comedy on the Road, and was a $10,000 winner on ABC’s America’s Funniest People.

Jeffrey Paul served as master of ceremonies. They come from Chris Carroll’s JCP Entertainment Club in Allentown.

Also on the schedule for the evening was a Northwestern Lehigh School District basket raffle and a 50-50 drawing.

Of course, among the raffle prizes were Tiger shirts. There were montages of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

At 7:55 p.m. Rick Petrovic asked if they were ready for the show to begin and was met with a resounding “Yes.”

Emcee Paul said the booster event was a good cause and they were a good crowd.

Paul introduced Jensen, who was originally from Oklahoma.

“Oklahoma is OK,” Jensen said. “It is so flat you can watch your dog run away for three days. As a kid our greatest treat was lard pops.”

Jensen said he parked cars for a while and though he did not make much money he has a great CD collection.

O’Donnell said he played in many places but the Lynnport Fire Company is the best.

“I went to a Catholic school. We had to sing A-B-C-D-E, etc. Did you ever try to sing it without the tune,” he asked, saying it went like A – B – C – D – E.

He also spoofed Elmer Fudd, some presidents, and Popeye, among others.

Following the entertainers drawings were held for the raffle and 50-50 drawing.
