Warm up to the classics: The Allentown Symphony Orchestra, conducted by ASO Artistic Director Diane Wittry with guest solist, pianist Simon Mulligan, presents “Appalachian Spring & Rhapsody In Blue,” 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9 and 3 p.m. Feb. 10, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown. The program includes Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” in its full orchestra version with 75 musicians on stage and featuring dancers from the Ballet Guild of the Lehigh Valley, with new choreography by Ballet Guild of the Lehigh Valley Artistic Director Karen Knerr. Also on the program are George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody In Blue,” “I Got Rhythm Variations For Piano And Orchestra” and “An American In Paris,” the latter in its original version, which includes four tuned taxi horns and three soprano saxophones. There’s a Feb. 9 after-concert, “Simon On Three,” with Mulligan and his jazz trio in the Rodale Community Room. There’s a separate charge for tickets. Get on stage at The State: A Valentine’s edition of “Stage on Stage,” featuring Charlie Romo, with guest Colette Boudreaux accompanied by Charity Wicks, is at 8 p.m. Feb. 8, State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton. The main stage will be transformed into a “club” atmosphere, with performers and audience on stage. Romo, a native New Yorker, has performed with Usher, Chita Rivera, and Ben Vereen at venues like The Friars Club and David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center. His repertoire includes interpretatons of songs by Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Elvis Presley, Dean Martin and Bing Crosby, accompanied by world-class musicians. Romo was recipient of Broadway World’s 2016 “Best Debut Artist Award” and a finalist in the 2017 NYC Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs Awards for “Best Male Debut Artist.” A cash bar will be available on stage.
