For the Salisbury seniors, Saturday afternoon was the final time that they would take to their home court. Unfortunately for the Falcons, the home portion of their high school careers ended with a 60-18 loss to Northwestern Lehigh.

The Lady Falcons fell to 3-18, 3-13 with the loss to Northwestern. The loss was the third straight for Salisbury.

The Falcons struggled against the size of the Lady Tigers right from the opening tip-off. Northwestern’s Emily Sekerak collected her fifth rebound with 4:30 still left to play in the first quarter. Sekerak finished with 10 rebounds and teammate Sage Christopher pulled down seven. Even being sharply out rebounded, the score was a manageable 15-8 after the first quarter.

“We knew that we would have a size advantage and we were able to use that,” said Northwestern coach Chris Deutsch. “Then, we just had a good night shooting and it all came together. I wasn’t sure what to expect, because Salisbury is the type of team that can catch you when they’re playing well and I didn’t want our girls to take them lightly.”

Salisbury came out firing from the outside to avoid getting tangled among the taller Northwestern (17-3, 12-3) players and Erica Holben and Melena Koutch each hit three-pointers in the first quarter to keep Salisbury in the game. Deutsch played to his team’s strength and worked the ball down low to Sekerak and Christopher, who combined for 25 first half points.

Northwestern had one of those stretches where nearly every shot that they put up went in as they outscored Salisbury 18-5 in the third quarter to open up a 54-16 lead. Meanwhile, the Tigers’ defense worked to take away the outside shot and challenged Salisbury to try to drive inside, which led to the Falcons scoring just seven second half points.

Koutch and Quinn Wittman led Salisbury with five points each in the loss.

Salisbury also dropped games to Palmerton (9-12, 8-7), who downed the Falcons 70-37 and then fell to Palisades (9-12, 5-12) by a 49-36 score Thursday night. Koutch, Wittman and Arianna Young all had eight points against Palmerton and Koutch led all Salisbury players with 14 poitns against Palisades.

Wittman added nine and Young had five in the loss to the Lady Pirates.
