A Lower Macungie Township resident was fatally injured when she was struck by a vehicle on Lower Macungie Road, Lower Macungie Township, Feb. 2.
Dzefka Islamova, 70, was pronounced dead 6:33 p.m. Feb. 2 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Boulevard, Salisbury Township, according to a media release from the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensics Center.
The cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt force injuries. The manner of death was ruled an accident, according to Eric D. Minnich, first deputy coroner, who provided the media release.
Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville investigators detailed the accident as follows:
At 5:55 p.m. Feb. 2, troopers were dispatched to the area of Lower Macungie Road and Hamilton Boulevard, Lower Macungie Township, for a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. Aid was being administered to the pedestrian when state police arrived and she was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital. The pedestrian, later identified as Islamova, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, according to police.
Further investigation revealed Islamova allegedly was crossing Lower Macungie Road where no crosswalk was present when she was struck by a passing motorist.
Lower Macungie Fire Department and EMS also responded.
Investigation of the accident also includes the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
The accident investigation continues, according to authorities.
