February is a very busy month for students, full of planning and organizing for many different activities for the upcoming months.
February 1 marked the Second Quarter Pep Rally for Lehigh Valley Academy students. The event was designed like the Olympics, with each grade representing a different nation. Seniors represented Japan; juniors represented Italy; sophomores represented Spain; and freshmen represented Germany. The winner of the gold medal was Spain.
The Drama Club announced that its upcoming musical will be “Freaky Friday.” Rehearsals are already in full swing in preparation for performances April 13 and 14. This is Lehigh Valley Academy’s second musical production. Students are excited to participate in and attend the play and look forward to having spring musicals become a permanent program.
February is also the month of love, as Valentine’s Day is Feb. 14. National Honor Society students are creating Valentine’s Day cards for the elderly who are residents at facilities like Senior Life and Atria Senior Living. They will be getting hand-made cards from the students between Feb. 10 and 15.
High school students will also visit Senior Life Feb. 15 to sing and perform for the residents. The Tri-Music Honor Society, led by senior President Isabella Trauger, will bring its members to Senior Life, as it does every year, to perform for and greet the senior residents. In addition to patriotic songs that most seniors recognize, the students will sing old favorites like “Sixteen Tons” and “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”.
LVA’s Mini-Thon is a little less than three months away, with its 12-hour event that raises money for Four Diamonds, a cancer research center in Hershey that supports children with pediatric cancer and their families. The goal for this year is $10,000. April 27 is the Mini-Thon date, and faculty, students, families, and the community are all welcome to join in the fun! There will be face painting, a dance floor, a bounce house and many more activities.
