LV MUSEUM:
Dr. William Donnery will speak about “Legendary Pennsylvania-Dutch Humor,” 1 p.m. Feb. 2, Lehigh County Historical Society’s Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum, 432 W. Walnut St., Allentown.
Donner will explore Pennsylvania-Dutch humor and share some of his favorite Pennsylvania-Dutch and Groundhog Day jokes.
Donner will discuss Pennsylvania-Dutch humorists, including Ted Rickenbach, nicknamed Professor Schnitzel, whose mid-20th century Pennsylvania-Dutch radio broadcasts and record releases made him a household name in the Lehigh Valley.
Donner, who received a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, is a Professor of Anthropology at Kutztown University.
Copies of Donner’s book, “Serious Nonsense: Groundhog Lodges, Versammlinge, and Pennsylvania German Heritage,” will be available for purchase and signing by the author.
