D-11 wrestling duals begin on Thursday

The District 11 dual tournament kicks off this Thursday night to officially begin the postseason run for area teams with opening round 3A action taking place at Liberty and Northampton.

Freedom (eighth seed) will open with Emmaus (ninth seed) at 6 p.m. for the right to the on top-seeded Liberty at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Gymnasium.

The other opening round bout at Liberty features Nazareth (fifth seed) taking on Whitehall (12th seed), with the winner moving on to take on Stroudsburg (fourth seed).

Bethlehem Catholic is the second seed in the bracket and they’ll be at Memorial Gym as well, awaiting the winner of Easton (seventh seed) and Parkland (10th seed).

The other site pairs the home K-Kids as the third seed, as they get the winner of Pottsville (sixth seed) and Blue Mountain (11th seed).

Saturday’s action moves to Freedom once again, with the semifinals slated for 10:45 a.m. and the championship bout at 5:30 p.m.

Liberty and Nazareth are the presumptive matchup in the top half of the bracket in the semifinal action, while Northampton and Bethlehem Catholic figure to be the other semifinal. If necessary, the true second place bout is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

In 2A, Northampton, Northern Lehigh and Liberty are the opening round sites on Thursday. Top-seeded Saucon Valley awaits Catasauqua (eighth seed) or Jim Thorpe (ninth seed) at Northampton. The other matchups in the top bracket features fourth seeded Mahanoy Area, as they’ll get either Lehighton (fifth seed) or Pine Grove 12th seed) at Northern Lehigh.

Northern Lehigh will also host North Schuylkill (sixth seed) and Tri-Valley (11th seed) in an opening round with the winner facing third seeded Wilson.

At Liberty, second seeded Notre Dame GP will wrestle the winner of Tamaqua (seventh seed) and Northwestern (10th seed).

The 2A action will be at Freedom on Saturday as well with the semifinals, finals and true second place bout taking place simultaneously with 3A wrestling.
