LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Letter to the editor

To the Editor:

It’s that time again. The annual seizure of increased property taxes by our government schools system is upon us.

As in past years, we are given an amount the tax will increase; this year, it’s 3.79 percent, but we are told, “We are not going to finalize it at 3.79 percent.”

New year, same old story.

Where is the warehouse tax money going? How about a spending cut and tax decrease? That’s not likely to happen in the foreseeable future because we are now on the build-new-schools bandwagon. After Lehigh Elementary, which one will be next?

School property taxes in Pennsylvania are like a cancer. The only way to cure the disease is to eliminate it. That’s what is needed in our state. We all need to contact our state representative and state senator to force them to do whatever is necessary to eliminate school property taxes. We must also tell our governor that he needs to get on board with this effort.

The education tax-and-spend system is out of control and could bankrupt many of our fine citizens if something isn’t done to change the system. More money spent does not improve education. That’s been proven time and time again in various school districts across the country.

We need this tax problem fixed now!
